Culinary Stardom and MasterChef India Legacy
Brar is best known for his engaging presence as the host of popular television food shows and as a discerning judge on multiple seasons of MasterChef India, including Seasons four, six, seven, and eight. His fellow judges included the likes of esteemed chefs such as Sanjeev Kapoor (Season 4), Vikas Khanna (across all seasons), Vineet Bhatia (Season 6), Garima Arora (Season 7), and Pooja Dhingra (Season 8).
From Lucknow to Culinary Excellence
Born in the cultural city of Lucknow, India, to parents Ishwar Singh and Surinder Kaur, Brar’s culinary journey began early. Inspired by the local kebab vendors, he developed a deep passion for food. Despite initial family reservations, Brar’s determination led him to apprentice under Munir Ustad. This pivotal experience paved the way for formal training at the Institute of Hotel Management, Lucknow.

A Stellar Career Unfolds
Post-education, Brar kickstarted his career at the esteemed Taj Mahal Hotel. In 2001, he made waves by opening “Morisco,” a seafood haven, “il Camino,” an Italian delight, and “Fishtail,” an open-air barbecue gem, all at the Fort Aguada Beach Resort in Goa. By 2003, he became the youngest executive chef in India at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Noida.
Venturing across the seas to Boston, Massachusetts, he introduced “Banq,” an exquisite Franco-Asian establishment, which garnered accolades including the prestigious title of “Best New Restaurant in the World” by “Wallpaper” magazine. Although the restaurant has since closed its doors, its impact is indelible.
Upon his return to India, Brar took the reins as the Corporate Chef for the One World Hospitality Group in Boston. He then assumed the role of Senior Executive Chef at Novotel, Juhu Beach, Mumbai.
Creating Culinary Marvels
Brar’s creativity extended beyond the kitchen. He curated menus for MTV India’s chain of restaurants, a venture launched by Viacom 18’s consumer products division. FLYP @ MTV, the inaugural restaurant, opened its doors in Delhi in late 2015, with subsequent launches in Chandigarh and Mumbai.
In a groundbreaking collaboration with Haute Chef, Brar introduced an ‘artisan’ line of meal kits in December 2015. He also unveiled the upscale patisserie, English Vinglish, in Mumbai during the spring of 2016, showcasing a fusion of Indian-inspired desserts, breads, and pastries.
A Legacy of Diverse Dining Experiences

In December 2016, Brar unveiled TAG Gourmart Kitchen by Ranveer Brar, an all-vegetarian fine-dining haven in Mumbai. Additionally, he ventured into the Greater Toronto Area, Canada, with the establishment of Mayura (now closed) in 2017.
Brar played a pivotal role in conceptualizing the F&B offerings at the heritage property, Alila at Bishangarh by Alila Hotels and Resorts.
He was instrumental in curating gourmet Indian cuisine for Royal Caribbean International’s cruise liners on their Singapore voyages and partnered with Thomas Cook India in crafting menus for Indian travelers exploring foreign shores.
Culinary Education and Workshops
Brar took his culinary expertise on the road, crisscrossing various Indian cities in partnership with Mercedes-Benz India through the Ranveer Brar Culinary Academy. This initiative featured cooking workshops and demonstrations as part of the Luxe Drive Live campaign.
Dubai’s Culinary Gem: Kashkan
In September 2023, Brar added another feather to his cap with the opening of Kashkan, an Indian restaurant in Dubai Festival City Mall. The establishment offers a pan-Indian menu, showcasing the diverse flavors spanning the length and breadth of the country.
